Not only the temperatures were surreal, every day of the entire week was filled with extraordinary art and records of participants. It has never been as hot as it was this year at the World Bodypainting Festival. Breath taking body art was the centre of this weekend’s attraction for visitors but alongside that, music acts such as Gentleman, Madcon and Lost Frequencies played the beats to the tropical weather that will stay in thousands of people’s memories. It’s even more astounding how amazing the creative work from the artists and new world champions was considering the testing temperatures.
The World Champion in the category Brush and Sponge was Min Ah Kim, the first time an artist from South Korea has won. Following her were Sanatan Dinda from India and Roxanne Horn from the Netherlands. Alex Hansen won the category Airbrush for the 3rd time. After 2008 and 2014 Alex carried the world title to Brazil again. Second place went to Tariciotti Francesca and 3rd to Umberto Zanoni both from Italy.
The favourite category for the audience is always Special Effects Bodypainting and the competition was tough this year. The first place was only a few point ahead with artist Sofia Bue from New Zealand. It was a glorious step up after her 2013 win in the special effect face make up category. Vice Champion was Ludwig Decarli from Austria and third place to Benedetta Carugati from Italy.
From the organizer: "Lovely people, its been for sure the best World Bodypainting Festival history, with artists from almost 50 countries, but also photographers, models and exhibitors coming from all around the world. THANK YOU for making the little village of Pörtschach to the HOME of the bodypainting artform. Big shout out to all these hard workers and volunteers that make Bodypaint City an open air arts park for a week. My amazing crew and me are getting to an end for this year and we are looking forward to see you back in 2016. The date will be from 30 June - 4 July 2016". Greetings from the lake Wörthersee in Carinthia, Austria", Alex Barendregt.
